Many of the exercises in yoga require the practitioner to bend, twist, stretch and hold. The poses rely heavily on the capacity of the muscles to bear the weight of the body. This helps in toning the muscles, along with acting as a brilliant cardio routine. The body becomes more flexible, allowing movement in the joints. Many of us work in an office, where our actions are restricted to desk assigned to us. As a result, the shoulders begin to droop. A hunched back signifies that the spine is not properly aligned. This can be the cause of serious problems in the back and neck. Since most asanas in yoga mandate you to sit straight, the body becomes accustomed to sitting and standing properly over a certain period of time.
