Step Into the Ashtanga Method
This 3-day immersion offers a clear and grounded introduction to the foundations of traditional Ashtanga Yoga.
Through daily practice, pranayama, philosophy, anatomy, and alignment, you will explore not only how to practice Ashtanga, but also why the method is structured the way it is.
The immersion combines the discipline and repetition of the Ashtanga system with an intelligent and mindful approach to the body. You will learn how to work with breath, movement, gaze, alignment, and modifications so that your practice can develop with greater awareness and sustainability.
Whether you are completely new to Ashtanga or already have an established yoga practice, these three days are designed to help you understand the method from the inside out.
What You Will Explore
Practice — Primary Series
Each morning begins with a 2-hour Ashtanga practice in a Led / Mysore-inspired format, giving you the opportunity to experience the Primary Series while receiving guidance and individual support.
You will explore:
- The structure of the Primary Series
- Vinyasa and breath coordination
- Drishti (gaze)
- The role of repetition and consistency
- How to approach the practice with discipline without force
- Modifications that allow the practice to adapt to your body
Pranayama & Breath Awareness
The physical practice is supported by dedicated pranayama sessions, helping you develop greater awareness of the relationship between breath, movement, concentration, and inner experience.
Philosophy
Yoga is more than asana.
Through daily philosophy sessions, we will explore the philosophical roots of yoga and the deeper purpose of practice, including how yoga can become a way of living rather than something limited to the mat.
Topics include:
- The foundations of yogic philosophy
- The purpose and discipline of practice
- Yoga as a spiritual path
- Integrating yogic principles into everyday life
- The relationship between practice, awareness, and transformation
Anatomy & Alignment
Understanding your body is essential for developing a sustainable practice.
You will explore:
- Stability and mobility in asana
- Working safely with the hips, hamstrings, and lower back
- Practical alignment principles
- Common challenges within the Primary Series
- Intelligent modifications and adaptations
- How individual anatomy influences the way we experience postures
Two postures from the Primary Series will also be studied in greater depth, allowing you to understand their mechanics and explore how to approach challenging asanas progressively.
We will also introduce the subtle and energetic body, expanding the understanding of yoga beyond purely physical anatomy.
THE 3 DAYS
DAY 1 — Understanding the Ashtanga Method
We begin by understanding the architecture of the practice and what makes Ashtanga distinct from other approaches to yoga.
You will explore:
- What makes Ashtanga different from other yoga styles
- Vinyasa, breath and drishti
- The structure and logic of the sequence
- The role of repetition and discipline
- How consistency becomes a tool for transformation
The first day creates a strong foundation, helping you understand the method before going deeper into the practice.
DAY 2 — Body Mechanics
The second day brings greater attention to the body and how it moves within the Ashtanga system.
We will explore:
- Stability and mobility
- Hips, hamstrings and lower back
- Alignment and injury prevention
- Individual anatomy
- Modifications and adaptations
- Working intelligently with challenging postures
- An introduction to the subtle and energetic body
Two postures from the Primary Series will be examined in depth, giving you practical tools to approach your own practice with greater understanding.
DAY 3 — The Philosophical Spine of Yoga
On the final day, we move beyond physical technique and explore the deeper dimension of yoga.
We will look at:
- Yoga beyond asana
- Pranayama, mudra and mantra
- The philosophical roots of yoga
- The purpose of sustained practice
- Yoga as a spiritual path
- Bringing the principles of practice into everyday life
The intention is to connect the physical discipline of Ashtanga with the deeper purpose of yoga.
